Big volume knob The volume control is the knob that you use all the time. Therefore it is great that it sits right where you want it: always within reach. With a volume control independent from the computer - between the computer and the active speakers - you can always turn down the volume, no matter what your computer does.
High resolution meter The high resolution gives you precise information about levels. With clear level indication, you can always monitor the level of the input signal and if you're near clipping. You can also choose to use the meter for mastering purposes.
Reverb for tracking For monitoring convenience, the reverb is available as part of your monitor mix. You can control the reverb level directly from the top panel of Desktop Konnekt, and you can set reverb parameters using the control panel on the computer.
Direct monitor MIX Use the direct monitor knob to control the direct monitor level directly from the top panel of Desktop Konnekt. Together with the DIM switch and the MONO switch you have all the monitor functions you need at hand.
Scenes With Scene select you can easy access three independent scenes or "setups". The three default presets are for Microphone and guitar, two guitars/basses, a stereo line signal.

We recommend running konnekts on a dedicated FireWire bus. If your computer has one or more FireWire connections on the chassis they will typically run on the same FireWire bus. You may connect the konnekt to one of these. If you intend to run more FireWire devices simultaneously, such as e.g. an external hard drive, we recommend running this device on a separate bus.
This would typically be on an installed FireWire PCI card. Note that such a FireWire PCI card typically has 3 ports but these also operate on a single bus.

MasterControl Complete Studio Interface and Control System
Audio Interface + Control Surface + Control Room Manager = MasterControl: It’s a simple equation, and we know that as a musician, you’re not fond of math, but MasterControl really is the sum of its three distinct studio-management factors.
MasterControl eliminates your need for individual analog and digital audio interfaces, speaker switching and routing units, mixing and transport-control surfaces, hardware volume controls, and more. The only piece of gear you need to input all of your sources into your DAW; the only piece of gear you need to control recording and editing; and the only piece of gear you need to run professional tracking and mixing sessions is MasterControl. We even throw in two powerful recording and production programs: Steinberg Cubase LE 4 and Ableton Live Lite 7.
Master Audio Interface: MasterControl is a 24-bit, 192kHz, high-resolution, low-latency audio interface. It is capable of nearly any input type and quantity, with a flexible and generous output section. It features low-latency FireWire computer connectivity for Mac and PC. The single cable carries all audio and control data from MasterControl to your DAW.
MasterControl contains eight analog inputs. Inputs one and two offer XLR connection, high-definition, discrete-design preamplifiers, 48V phantom power, and channel inserts. Inputs three through eight contain 1/4" TRS, line jacks. MasterControl’s input section can be expanded to handle up to 24 simultaneous inputs, including dual ADAT Lightpipe, coaxial, and optical S/PDIF. Six analog outputs and 16-channel MIDI I/O further extend MasterControl’s impressive I/O capabilities.
Extensive Control Surface: MasterControl contains hands-on controls for confidently running tracking and editing sessions. Multiple banks of assignable controllers enable access over 50 software parameters in real time.
Nine touch-sensitive, 100mm, motorized, capacitive Alps faders deliver the hands-on mixing experience that mixing in software with a mouse simply cannot rival. MasterControl has eight assignable knobs that access three control banks each and two banks of eight assignable buttons that access two control banks each. Dedicated transport controls and a multifunction jog wheel complete the tactile control package.
MasterControl’s DSP-driven internal mixer enables hardware-direct monitoring with zero discernable latency. It employs the industry-standard HUI protocol for communication with all popular DAW software, and requires no mapping for seamless interoperation. Building upon the standard, MasterControl also enables editing of templates and presets for customization. A large, dedicated display provides real-time visual feedback of all actions, and preview button allows safe audition of controls prior to sending commands to the DAW.
Control Room Management: MasterControl’s built-in speaker switching enables you to easily switch between multiple sets of monitor loudspeakers for ease of mix-accuracy checks. An internal talkback microphone enables easy communication with musicians while tracking.
Three pairs of independently assignable stereo outputs with dedicated, active mute buttons place the engineer squarely in the driver’s seat. With flexible, direct monitor routing, sources are assignable through any and all output pair(s). Dual, independently assignable stereo headphone outputs with independent gain controls further extend the output capabilities of MasterControl. The dedicated talkback microphone can be engaged from the control surface or using an optional footswitch.
Superior Audio Processing: MasterControl employs an advanced DICE II chip with JetPLL technology for clock-stable firewire-audio streaming and routing. JetPLL nearly eliminates audio-band jitter, greatly improves imaging, and decreases digital noise, all of which combine to deliver peerless sync.
As digital audio devices are added to a system, they increasingly create system-additive audio-band clock jitter. Variation between device clocks can actually fall outside the ability of some devices to cope, causing failure. JetPLL is extremely tolerant of wide variations in clock frequencies. Its hybrid design incorporates noise shaping to virtually remove audio-band jitter. This technology ensures the highest possible converter performance, resulting in better separation.
MasterControl contains 114 dB, 24-bit, 192 kHz stereo analog-to-digital converters. Sampling, analog-to-digital conversion, and anti-alias filtering are performed by MasterControl’s 24-bit, stereo ADCs at sample rates up to 192 kHz per channel. They employ a 5th-order delta-sigma modulator followed by low-latency digital filtering, eliminating the need for external anti-alias filtering and providing excellent noise rejection.
MasterControl also features 114 dB, 24-bit, 192 kHz multi-channel digital-to-analog converters. MasterControl’s uncompromising DAC system begins with digital de-emphasis, ATAPI channel mixing, digital-interpolation filtering, and an oversampled delta-sigma modulator. Audio is fed to the differential analog outputs through a multi-element switched-capacitor stage with low-latency IIR low-pass filtering.
Software and System Compatibility: MasterControl comes with a powerful software suite for recording and sequencing. It includes Steinberg Cubase LE music production software with a full range of tools for audio and MIDI recording and mixing, and Ableton Live Lite, a production and performance program enabling you to create, produce and perform your music all in a single application.
MasterControl is an HUI+ control surface, meaning that it is uniquely programmable with HUI and Mackie Control compatibility for use with all popular DAWs, virtual instruments, and other audio software on Mac and PC.

The extensive I/O section features 4 IMPACT II preamps.
With a very wide gain range, any type of microphone can be used with these great sounding mic preamps. Customized headroom ensures high quality recordings by treating very hot signal levels equal to low signal levels. Phantom power for condenser microphones goes without saying. The phantom power of Studio Konnekt 48 is compatible with all dynamic microphones and it is no problem using condenser microphones and dynamic microphones simultaneously.
he four combo inputs on the front of Studio Konnekt 48 also feature inputs for high impedance instruments such as guitars or basses, and to get the best possible sound quality, there is a separate electronic circuit handling guitar signals. An auto detecting sensor detects whether you have attached an instrument and selects the appropriate circuit via the built-in relay switch.
With 8 TRS line inputs on the rear panel, the total amount of simultaneously streamable analog inputs is 12. The TRS inputs are balanced and the input sensitivity can be set to -10 or +4 dB.
Analog and digital inputs can be monitored using the high resolution input display.
On the rear panel, you will also find 8 TRS line outputs. These would do nicely with a surround speaker setup, typically 5.1 (left, right, center, LFE, left surround, right surround). Also, line outs would make sense for sending out separate mixes to external headphone amps, or even to an external mixing desk if needed. They are also perfect for integrating external analog hardware with your DAW based studio.
For your main monitor speakers we've provided special XLR connections. This balanced stereo output is analog, but at the same time it is digitally controlled. This combines the great analog sound with the flexibility and precision of digital control.
The comprehensive digital I/O section features double ADAT (8 channels, 96 kHz SMUX), TOS, S/PDIF, MIDI and word clock I/O and the digital part is powered by the unmatched DICE Jet jitter elimination engine securing the best possible digital quality. 30 channels are streamed to and 28 channels are streamed from the DAW simultaneously.
The two headphone outputs on the front of Studio Konnekt 48 have individual amplification, level control and source. The left headphone output has its own D/A converter, while the right one uses the same D/A converter as line out 11/12. The flexible routing of Studio Konnekt 48 even allows you to route two independent signals to each side (left and right) of your headphones - if you're a DJ, you'll like this feature, because it allows you to have the main track in one side and the cue in the other - at the same time.
FireWire I/O
Studio Konnekt 48 is a 1394 FireWire based audio interface. One great advantage of this is that it is extremely easy to connect other Konnekt audio interfaces to your setup, thereby enhancing the number of I/Os and effect channels in your system. But not only is it easy to connect to your computer, the future proof network design also enables direct monitoring between devices.
An important part of the FireWire design of the Konnekt interfaces is based on a TC designed chip called DICE II. The DICE II chip is the electronic part that makes the connection between all the inputs and outputs of Konnekt, but it does way more than that.
One important feature of the chip is the JET jitter elimination technology. JET is TC’s next generation of jitter elimination and sync handling, based on experience from TC flag ship System 6000, EQ Station and AIR speakers.
Jitter elimination
Caused by the variations in the timing of digital clocks controlling audio devices in the digital system, packets being streamed can arrive with varying delays. Jitter appears as audio degradation including reduced dynamic range and collapsed stereo fields.
With integrated JET technology Studio Konnekt 48 is able to perfectly align all digital signals from external digital sources, including the ones from FireWire. This means that all supported digital formats will be aligned to ensure maximal digital quality.
JetPLL makes sure that unwanted jitter is eliminated, and plays a significant part of why Studio Konnekt 48 will enhance the sound of your projects dramatically.
Advanced Clock Recovery
Sometimes users would like to synchronize the system to an external source. For this purpose, they use a house clock product to sync to. Studio Konnekt 48 can of course sync to an external source, using one of its digital ins, including word clock.
One of the problems with syncing to external sources is that the system is totally dependent on the sync device. If the connection is broke or the external device is turned of, the system will potentially stop playing. Some audio interfaces will automatically shift from external sync to internal sync, and this will keep audio playing, but at a different sample rate. A unique feature in Studio Konnekt 48, called Advanced Clock Recovery, not only ensures that the system continues to play, but it also makes sure that it continues to play at the sample rate that it was syncing up to.

Studio Konnekt 48 is the member of the FireWire powered Konnekt audio interface family offering the most comprehensive feature set that the world has ever seen in an audio interface. It is the most complete product TC Electronic has ever made, and it represents a milestone to the computer recording world.
Studio Konnekt 48 offers a comprehensive array of professional features that make recording, mixing and monitoring a breeze. All essential recording tools are in one box including world-class DSP effects, a wealth of I/O options, speaker management and many other powerful tools to take your recordings to the next level.
The extensive I/O section features 4 IMPACT II™ preamps. With 8 line ins on the rear panel, the total amount of simultaneously streamable analog inputs is 12 as well as 12 analog outputs. Two outputs feature digitally controlled analog XLR connections for optimal connection with your main monitor speakers while the analog output section has 2 independent phones out.
The comprehensive digital I/O section features double ADAT 96 kHz SMUX, TOS, S/PDIF and Word Clock I/O and the digital part is powered by the second-to-none DICE Jet jitter elimination engine.
Studio Konnekt 48 comes with nothing short of world-class DSP effects, including the Fabrik C Studio, an easy-to-use channel strip and mastering tool that offers 4-band EQ, multiband compression and limiting based on algorithms from TC’s high-end System 6000. Also running on DSPs you'll find the Fabrik R Studio no compromise reverb based on TC Electronic Reverb 4000 technology. It has a DSP powered 24/8 digital mixer with 48-bit double precision summing on all mix points. There is no compromise routing for all outputs and a wealth of insert points offering top-notch flexibility.
Not only does Studio Konnekt 48 offer support for surround speaker systems, it does way more than that. The speaker management section is based on technology from the famous AIR™ speaker series, featuring individual speaker level and delay settings. The Bass Management feature gives you total control of your sub speaker and the speaker management offers instant control of up to 3 speaker sets.
Studio Konnekt 48 comes with a cool, compact remote. With the Studio Kontrol remote at hand, you have access to all essential mixer parameters, including main level, mix levels, reverb level/decay time, speaker set selection, AUX sends and more. It has a built-in talkback microphone and a really cool light ring.
Remote control
Desktop remote control with integrated talkback microphone With the optional Studio Kontrol remote, you have instant access to all important mixer parameters at all times.
Use the encoder to control the selected function. The encoder controls two functions at a time - press it to shift between the two. The compact design of the remote makes it fit nicely beside the mouse in any computer based studio.
At the upper section you find the input mix. This is where you control the level of the incoming signals - the mixer channels. This section is quite flexible, and from the control panel you decide which channels to control.
Also the EFFECT button is flexible. By default it controls the reverb level and decay time, but it can also be assigned to control other parameters, for instance it can work as a midi controller.
A talkback microphone is also part of the remote. The talkback microphone is enabled by pressing the TALK button. When in talkback mode, you can use the encoder to adjust the talkback level. In order to communicate most effectively, channels are dimmed to a selectable level, and to further optimize the talkback signal, you can insert a Fabrik C Studio for EQing, de-essing or compressing the voice.
The talkback signal is routed to the DAW like any other input of Studio Konnekt 48, so you can make recordings directly from it if you want to make audio notes in your project or if you want to use it with other applications, such as Skype.
he remote also gives you direct access to the guitar tuner. When in tuner mode, the lightring will show note deviation, and by pressing the encorder, you can generate a reference tone for tuning acoustic guitars.
