TASCAM's DP004 Digital Pocketstudio is based on 30 years of easy-to-use cassette Portastudios, updated with four tracks of CD-quality digital recording. Like those groundbreaking Portastudios, a row of knobs set levels and pan instead of a list of menus.
The DP004 can record two sources at once to the included 1GB SD Card. A built-in stereo condenser microphone makes it simple to record anywhere you go, perfect for concerts, rehearsals and songwriting inspirations. A pair of 1/4" jacks on the rear panel allow you to connect your own microphones or sources. You can even switch the inputs to guitar level for recording.
The DP004 allows you to build up your arrangement until you've filled up all four tracks. The Bounce feature allows you to consolidate tracks and make room for more overdub layers. Track editing and undo is also available.
Mixing is also built into the Digital Pocketstudio. Once you set levels and pan, record your mix onto a dedicated stereo master track. You're able to transfer your tracks and mixes to a computer over USB 2 for CD burning and sharing online.
Despite its go-anywhere compact design - smaller than a paperback book - the DP004 is simple enough for students, songwriters and musicians who want to keep their recording process simple and creative.

Unlimited recording tracks = limitless possibilities SOUND on SOUND is a handy-sized multitrack recorder that lets you play back your song while continuing to overdub more parts. You can overdub as many times as you like, without having to worry about running out of tracks. Pick a rhythm, chop out some guitar chords, lay down a vocal, add some harmonies, play a solo – or two, or three or fifty! With the SOS, the possibilities are endless. Used as a sketchpad, SOUND on SOUND allows you to preserve all of your musical ideas, from complex themes to inspired snippets and phrases.
Each overdub is saved individually SOS saves each of your overdubs separately. These track files are saved as individual WAV files. This allows each overdub to be loaded directly into nearly any DAW software program as an individual track. The individual files are BWF (Broadcast Wave Format) compliant, meaning they contain timing information. So if you had overdubbed a track in the middle of the song, it will automatically align correctly in a BWF-supported DAW. You can also use the Finalize operation to automatically time-align each overdub track. SOUND on SOUND records at 44.1 kHz/16-bit resolution, and recordings are saved onto a convenient and reliable microSD or microSDHC card.
Advanced recording functions
Unlimited undo/redo* SOUND on SOUND allows an unlimited number of undo/redo operations. This is great when you are recording alternate takes of a guitar solo, for example. You can set the SOS to keep all of the "undone" recordings. This allows you to move all of your recorded tracks – even undone tracks – to a computer-based DAW system, and then choose the best take.
*Limited by the capacity of the installed microSD/SDHC card.
Loop recording The A/B Loop function can repeatedly play back a specified section of the song – a great way to practice your instrument or build up your song. In addition, you can even record while looping, creating results similar to a looper effect.
Sound Stretch This powerful feature allows you to change the playback speed without affecting the pitch. Sound Stretch can be used during playback or during recording. You can record a difficult passage at a slow speed and then return playback to normal speed. Likewise, you can slow down the entire sound during playback. The playback speed can be set anywhere from 25% to 150% of the original speed.
100 powerful effects Powered by Korg's proprietary "REMS" modeling technology, the SOS provides 100 effect choices, including effects for electric guitar (such as amp modeling), acoustic guitar, vocals, or any instrument. The effect can be applied as you record, or added to a previously recorded track. In the Master position, the effect can be applied to the entire song. The effects are divided into Guitar, Mic, Master and Touch. This last category allows effects to be controlled in real time, using the touchscreen display.
[GTR] 36 types of modeled guitar & bass effects
[MIC] 25 effects designed for acoustic sources using a microphone – vocals, acoustic guitar, etc.
[MST] 32 Master Effects, suitable for adding to a recorded song, or when recording a line input source (such as an external MP3 player)
[TCH] 7 Touch Effects, controllable in real-time using the display
On-board rhythms The rhythm function is convenient when recording your phrases and ideas. It can be used as a tempo guide or to create a rhythm backing. Fifty rhythms (each with four variations) cover a broad range of styles. Simply choose a pattern and set the tempo. The touch screen allows you to select one of four variations to change the complexity of the pattern
Korg tuner technology Now you can always be in tune when you record. Guitar, Bass, and Chromatic digital tuners are built in to the SOUND on SOUND. The calibration range is adjustable from 435 Hz to 445 Hz.
High-quality stereo mic / Internal monitor speaker A high-quality stereo condenser mic is securely mounted inside the SOUND on SOUND, providing a broad frequency response that realistically captures the sound of acoustic instruments. You can adjust the Tone, Low Cut, and Noise Gate settings of the input sound. The input level can be set manually or automatically. An external microphone jack is also provided. The dedicated guitar input lets you connect your guitar directly to the SOS. A line input for an external audio device is also provided. The monitor speaker lets you review your recording on the spot, without requiring any additional equipment.
Easy-to-use modern design SOUND on SOUND features a wedge shaped design that's easy to use whether held in your hand or placed on a desk. All the buttons are laid out on the top surface for intuitive operation. The innovative display provides a clear indication of the SOUND on SOUND's current functions and settings. The touchscreen display allows realtime access to song playback position, level adjustment, effect parameters, and rhythm patterns simply by touching your fingertip directly to the screen.
Battery powered portability SOUND on SOUND can operate for up to ten hours using two AA alkaline batteries. It can also be used with an AC adaptor (sold separately).
KORG AUDIO UTILITY downloadable software The Korg Audio Utility format conversion and audio CD creation software can be downloaded for free from the Korg website, and used free of charge. This software provides convenient data management of your recorded songs. With it, you can perform simple editing of the audio data, convert between audio formats, and even create audio CDs.

TASCAM culminates 30 years of Portastudio Recording with the DP-008, a portable 8-track recorder for all musicians. TASCAM's DP-008 is an eight-track recorder that captures CD-quality audio, two tracks at a time. You can use built-in microphones to grab ideas, plug condenser mics into the XLR inputs or plug a guitar directly in to lay tracks. There's even a metronome and chromatic tuner built-in for tight-sounding tracks. The DP-008 also allows you to digitally bounce tracks to make room for more, and touches like editing and undo make recording stress-free.
Each track on the DP-008 has its own row of knobs for level, pan and effects, just like our classic cassette Portastudios of the past. The effects knob sends to a built-in stereo reverb processor with hall, room, stage and other effects. Each track also has EQ to tailor the sound for your mix. When your song is complete, mix it to a dedicated stereo track while riding levels and flipping pan as much as you want. You can export your mix, or even individual tracks, as a WAV file.
TASCAM invented the home recording studio with the original cassette Portastudio. The DP-008 takes the ease-of-use of those classic songwriting tools and adds portability, digital sound quality, effects and mixdown to bring home recording into the 21st century. Simplify your recording workflow with TASCAM's DP-008.

TASCAM's HS-P82 offers 8 tracks of the highest quality recording, yet it's built for the rigors of location recording with reliable solid-state performance. The HS-P82 is built for location television and film production audio, with eight microphone inputs for big shoots or reality programs. The standard XLR microphone inputs include phantom power and analog limiting, with trims controlled from recessed front-panel controls. In addition to the eight individual tracks, a stereo mixdown can be recorded for instant use during editing.
Audio is recorded at up to 192kHz/24-bit WAV format to a pair of Compact Flash cards. This solid state media is completely reliable with no moving parts, and you can record to both cards simultaneously for extra security. The Broadcast WAV files include iXML metadata for quick import into nearly any video or audio editing system, either via the USB 2.0 connection or a standard card reader.
For multi-microphone music or surround effects recording, the HS-P82 now includes Mid-Side decoding – either recorded to the track or only for monitoring & playback. Microphone gain settings can be ganged together for fades, and inputs automatically mute when the gain is brought to its minimum setting.
The HS-P82 offers several options for power. It runs on either AA or NP batteries, an included AC adapter, external DC input or a V-mount adapter for Endura batteries. An internal slate microphone is available for naming takes. Functions like a 5-second pre-record buffer, front panel lockout and headphone output alert signal further inspire confidence.
For high-resolution music recording, a set of AES/EBU connectors is available for attaching pedigree A/D converters and preamplifiers. SMPTE timecode in and out, video and word sync are provided. All of this is controlled from a color touchscreen interface which makes operation fast and simple.

TASCAM's new X-48 is the world's first standalone 48-track Hybrid Hard Disk Workstation. Co-Developed with SaneWave, it integrates the best of both worlds: the stability and ease-of-use of a purpose-built hard disk recorder, with the GUI, editing and mixing features of a computer-based digital audio workstation.
It boasts up to 96kHz/24-bit recording across all 48 tracks. Its file compatibility and synchronization surpass even the TEC Award-winning MX-2424, with native Broadcast WAVE audio file support and AAF export for compatibility with workstations like Pro Tools®, Nuendo and Logic. Support for FireWire hard drives and Gigabit Ethernet allows simple transfer between systems, making it the ultimate multitrack solution for high-quality music, post and live recording applications.
Yet the X-48 goes beyond mere standalone recorders -- its built-in, automated 48-channel digital mixer, VGA display output, powerful editing functions and DVD+RW backup drive transform it into a complete integrated workstation.
Applications
Live Recording
The portability of the X-48 makes it a natural choice for live event and house of worship recording. Its dedicated design gives you extra reliability for those occasions when there aren't any second takes.
The optional IF-AN24X analog input card offers 24 high-quality balanced analog inputs, and you can use two cards for 48-track/96kHz recording. AES/EBU and ADAT digital I/O cards are also available, and both the analog and digital I/O can be used simultaneously for monitoring.
The rear panel contains a FireWire connection for connecting more hard drives for extra storage. Since the X-48 records Broadcast WAVE files, these recordings can immediately be brought into your favorite DAW for editing and mixing, or you can complete the project "inside the box" with the mixer built into the X-48. It also offers 60-channel automated mixing with powerful processing features, allowing you to monitor the show without an external mixer, and/or output a stereo mix to a CD or DVD recorder like our DV-RA1000HD.
Music Tracking
Working with the X-48 gives you the feel of recording to a purpose-built recorder, instead of an adapted computer workstation, for solid, reliable performance. With all of its synchronization and control options - like 9-pin control, MIDI control and SMPTE sync - it easily integrates with the rest of the equipment in your studio. When you just want to capture the music, not get bogged down in editing and setup, the X-48 helps you keep the session moving quickly to keep your artists creative.
The X-48 handles 48 tracks of simultaneous 96kHz recording and it keeps up with every punch-in, no matter how fast. Its great-sounding analog converters and inexpensive DVD backup media make it the perfect replacement for aging 24-track recorders. You can record to its built-in 80GB hard drive or to FireWire drives for removable storage.
Once you've captured the performance, you can assemble the perfect take using its built-in editing interface. Just plug in a mouse, keyboard and VGA monitor to start editing, looping, or crossfading between takes. If you prefer working in another format, export your session as an AAF file to a workstation like Pro Tools®. Audio tracks on the X-48 are also recorded as standard time-stamped Broadcast WAVE files that can be imported into any workstation software, and you can even work in "tape mode," which creates one audio file per track to make file management between systems easy.
Live Presentation Playback: The X-48 excels as a playback machine for theater, live performance and presentation applications. Its Theatre Mode function allows you to play one audio selection at a time, automatically cueing up the next section for instant playback. Designed for theaters playing back sound effects and music selections, Theatre Mode also offers hundreds of creative possibilities for multimedia producers. Whether the project originates on the X-48 or is imported from a DAW like Pro Tools, cueing the next scene is as simple and reliable as tapping a footswitch.
Synchronization features like SMPTE, MIDI and RS-422 enable the X-48 to integrate with multimedia installations. Its 48 tracks of playback easily allow multi-channel surround mixes to be reproduced with astonishing clarity. Integrated editing, mixing and project management allow the engineer to control an entire production from their fingertips.
Project Studio Recording
From the Portastudio to high-end professional solutions, TASCAM is well-known for innovative, all-in-one production workstations integrating recording and mixing in one box. The X-48 allows a small studio to combine 48-track, 96kHz/24-bit recording with powerful automated mixing for results never before possible at this price point.
The editing screen of the X-48 uses a familiar DAW interface, with snap-to-grid editing, crossfade and features professionals demand. The internal mixer is a 60-input digital system with 32-bit floating-point resolution. Each channel provides 4-band parametric EQ, dynamics processing and six aux sends. Best of all, the X-48 is configured out of the box for pro audio recording. There's nothing to install or troubleshoot - just plug it in, turn it on and press record.
